With the two contributors getting busy, the blog hasn’t seen too many posts in the past one month. Hopefully this should change, when the contributors get some vacation time in the next two months.
127 Hours did have some brilliant music (though I’ve not seen the placement of the tracks in the movie). It was expected to win at least one of the Academy awards that it was nominated for (best song for ‘If I Rise’ and best score for the movie ‘127 Hours’). Unfortunately, it didn’t win either of them. This surely doesn’t hamper the ecstatic feeling that I get upon listening to the three Liberation tracks. (I finally heard the track and I love it!) I hope to catch the movie soon, and see how it complements it. And more, I want to hike down the Grand Canyon listening to this soundtrack.
Imtiaz Ali’s Rockstar starring Ranbir Kapoor will be Rahman’s next release, and I am eagerly awaiting it. This is specially because, Imtiaz Ali has had some good music in his past ventures, courtesy Pritam (Love Aaj Kal and Jab We Met), and going by his previous movies, this movie will have a touch of reality/realism too! So, maybe the background score and the OST will have an Alaipayuthey and Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya type of feel to it! 🙂
Mani Ratnam’s next venture Ponniyin Selvan will have music from Rahman again. This is a collaboration of 19 years, and I just hope it gets stronger especially after wonders like Aayitha Ezhuthu, Thiruda Thiruda, Dil Se, Roja, Iruvar, Kannathil Muthamittal and Alaipayuthey. While Lagaan, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Bose: The Forgotten Hero, 1947: Earth and Iruvar are a few of the period albums of Rahman, I am hoping the period feel to this movie be similar to Narumugaiye from Iruvar. Is this Rahman’s first full fledged period movie in Tamil?
There’s also been news about Rahman’s project with Dreamworks on an animated version of Ramayana called the ‘Monkeys of Bollywood.’ This might be Rahman’s first score for an animation movie too, not considering the shelved ‘Sultan: The Warrior’, which is supposedly going to be changed to Rana (@sathm from Twitter says Rahman is composing for that too). I just hope the title of the Dreamworks movie is changed to something better.
I will try to have a couple more posts under ‘Reliving the 90s’ theme in the next few days.
